Travel to Romania

Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport (ex-OTOPENI) (http://www.otp-airport.ro/), located at about 450 km far from Iasi, is connected by direct flights with the most of the important cities in Europe. The important international airlines (AIR FRANCE, LUFTHANSA, KLM, AUSTRIAN AIRLINES, BRITISH AIRWAYS, ALITALIA etc.) operate at least 3 flights per day to Bucharest. Romanian Airline Company - TAROM (http://www.tarom.ro) operates also direct flights all over Europe, some of them in Code-Sharing system.

There are also a few low cost companies which operates flights to/from Bucharest daily or a few times per day.

 

Travel to Iasi

By plane

Austrian Airlines (http://www.aua.com) operates daily flights (excepting Saturday) to/from Iasi.

There are 3 daily flights from Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport to Iasi (http://www.tarom.ro).

Additionally, there are other flights from most of the European airports to Iasi through Timisoara or Cluj airports (located in the West of Romania) as given on the Expedia website (http://www.expedia.com). The flights between Timisoara and Iasi are operated by CarpatAir (http://www.carpatair.ro), which is also operating direct flight from Iasi to a bunch of airports in Europe.

The airport of Iasi is located at about 10-15 minutes by taxi from the city center, and the price for a trip is about 15 EUR.

By train

There are a few IC and rapid trains from Bucharest to Iasi and return every day (http://www.cfr.ro).

By car

The distance between Bucharest and Iasi is about 400 km. The speed limit outside the city is 90 km/h, and 50 km/h inside.

 

Local Transportation

Bus, tram, trolley bus and Maxi Taxi

The price of a ticket is 1.2 RON and it can be bought from the driver.

 

Taxi

Current daytime rate is 1.3 RON/km. Some extra charges may apply for night transportation.

Time Zone

Eastern European Time (Summer: UTC+3).

 

Currency

The local currency is Romanian Lei (RON). The approximate exchange rate is about 1 EUR = 3.2 RON and 1 USD = 2.3 RON (you can consult every day the current exchange rates on the National Bank of Romania web site).

For various transactions and money exchange, we recommend you to contact only authorized institutions, such as banks or exchange offices. Opening hours for Banks: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm, closed on Sundays.

Visitors are advised to bring some cash with them or to exchange some money when entering the country.

VISA and Travelers Checks are accepted at most banks. Cash-dispensing ATMs accept Visa, MasterCard and plenty of other plastic.

Credit cards are accepted in some hotels, restaurants and supermarkets.

 

Electricity

Electricity is supplied at: 220 volts / 50 Hz.

 

Internet Access

During the conference computers with Internet access as well as wireless connection will be available. You may also use commercial Internet Café’s at a rate of about 2 RON/hour.
